I’m not sure if it is oblivious, deceit or poor judgment, but I just had a woman send me a flirt and when I looked at her profile, she indicated that she is “stunning.”

You have to remember, on the dating sites they give you a check list of choices to describe yourself. It goes something like this: Under Looks they can give you these choices – average – good looking – very good looking - stunning. Now with this particular woman, I guess she wasn’t sure what to write since they didn’t have a closer match for her, like zombie, weird, or plain vanilla ugly.

It is disconcerting to see how many people misrepresent themselves when it comes to their own description. What was she thinking? Are her perspective dates never going to notice her picture clearly isn’t of one who is stunning? Does she not know what stunning means? Is she oblivious to reality? Is she flat out lying? Is this her picture from ten years ago when she thought she was stunning? Does she hope we won’t notice that she is far from stunning? And finally does she think she’ll catch a blind guy by using this rouse?

I don’t have an answer, though I wish I did. I wish I knew how to tell these people what they are doing wrong before they brood over having no one contact them month after month. They should be told that they are not representing themselves realistically.

With a picture it’s easy to tell those who are living in a peculiar reality, but what about the ones who say they are caring yet the set cats on fire?

I don’t have an answer to any of these questions. I guess we have to test the waters and abandon ship when we realize we picked an oddball.

Here’s a suggestion that may help all of us iDaters. Try to be honest, and when you have to make a description, maybe even reverse exaggerate. Yes, if you are stunning, say you are good looking and surprise all of us out there with a refreshing dose of humility.
